The International Air Services Commission (the Commission) has received an application from Qantas Airways Limited (Qantas) seeking an allocation of unrestricted capacity on the Canada route.
Qantas has requested the capacity on the following basis:
- the allocation is requested for a period of 99 years from the date of the determination;
- the capacity may be utilised by Qantas to offer code share services with American Airlines and WestJet Airlines;
- the capacity may be utilised by Qantas, Jetstar or another Australian carrier which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Qantas Group; and
- the capacity may be used by Qantas to provide joint services with any wholly-owned subsidiary of the Qantas Group and by any wholly-owned subsidiary of the Qantas Group to provide joint services with Qantas.
As a part of its application Qantas has sought to revoke [2023] IASC 133 and [2025] IASC 108 on the Canada route to be replaced by the determination allocating unrestricted capacity, if approved.
Invitation for other applications
In accordance with section 12 of the International Air Services Commission Act 1992, the Commission invites other applications for capacity on the route. The closing date for making an application is 9 April 2026.
