The International Air Services Commission (the Commission) has received an application from Virgin Australia seeking an allocation of 7 frequencies per week on the Qatar route. The capacity will allow Virgin Australia to continue operating existing twice-daily services between Sydney and Doha beyond 25 June 2027 while returning Brisbane and Perth services to daily operations. The capacity will be utilised under the wet lease agreement with Qatar Airways.
Virgin Australia has requested the capacity on the following basis:
- For a period of five years from the date of the determination; and
- The capacity will be fully utilised by 26 June 2027; and
- The capacity may be utilised by Virgin Australia to offer code share services with Qatar Airways.
Invitation for other applications
In accordance with section 12 of the International Air Services Commission Act 1992, the Commission invites other applications for capacity on the route. The closing date for making an application is 16 November 2026.
