The International Air Services Commission (the Commission) has received an application from Qantas seeking the following allocations of capacity:

  • 0.5 units of capacity per week in each direction on the France Route (1); and
  • three frequencies per week on the Italy route.

Qantas plans to increase services on the France route (Sydney-Singapore-Paris vv) and Italy (Perth-Rome vv) route from 18 May 2026, using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft configured with 236 seats. 

Qantas has requested both capacity allocations on the following basis:

  • Each determination is requested for a period of five years from the date of the determination; and
  • Each capacity allocation may be used by Qantas to provide joint services with any wholly-owned subsidiary and by any wholly-owned subsidiary of the Qantas Group to provide joint services with Qantas.

In separate correspondence, Qantas advised the Commission that it intends to fully utilise both capacity allocations by 30 May 2026.

Invitation for other applications

In accordance with section 12 of the International Air Services Commission Act 1992, the Commission invites other applications for capacity on the route France Route (1) and Italy route. The closing date for making an application is 14 April 2026.

Update: 28-April-2026

On 24 April 2026 the Commission issued:

  • Determination [2026] IASC 106 allocating to Qantas 0.5 units of capacity on France (Route 1), subject to certain conditions. The determination is valid for five years from 24 April 2026.
  • Determination [2026] IASC 105 allocating to Qantas three (3) frequencies on the Italy route, subject to certain conditions. The determination is valid for five years from 24 April 2026.
